Charles Little Obituary

Charles Edward Little (1938-2024)

Charles Edward Little (85) beloved husband, father and grandfather finished his race and met his Savior face-to-face on Friday January 19th, 2024 in Abilene, Texas. He was surrounded by his wife and children as he entered the gates of heaven, where we know he was greeted with, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The youngest of six children, Charles was born to John and Mamie Little in Gorman, Texas on April 26th, 1938. He was an avid skier, football player and rodeo enthusiast in his youth. He graduated from Carbon High School and worked for R.M. Sneed Construction until he entered into the United States Army.

He was happily married to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Little née Collins, for 61 years. Together they built a life devoted to one another, God and their three children; Caye Mauney, Charla Burgess and Alan Little.

After returning from service, Charles and his family farmed peanuts, raised cattle and ran a very successful outfitting business. Those that met or spent time with Charles and family, knew they would always be welcomed with a hearty “C’mon in here! How are ya?” and would later leave with a fuller heart and more often than not, a fuller stomach. Many people will fondly remember seeing him, comfortably stationed at his post near the blinking light in Gorman, socializing with friends new and old, whilst peddling homegrown vegetables in the summer and a variety of festive pumpkins in the fall.

Charles loved his community and dedicated much of his time helping local roping clubs, supporting the Eastland County Livestock Show, coaching softball and supporting various Gorman students athletic and academic endeavors. He and Carolyn were devoted members of the Kokomo Baptist Church, and loved to join in fellowship with their congregation and community. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time at the lake with family and friends, where he taught many young people to ski. He was adored by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was never too busy to play, discuss sports or teach them important skills that would further enrich their lives.

Charles set an incredible example of hard work, perseverance and faith. He lived his life with the goal of being remembered as a good Christian, husband, neighbor, father and loving grandfather. His legacy will be remembered by all of those who were impacted by his larger-than-life presence.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Little; his brothers Anson, Earl, Bobby, Jimmy Little and his sister Ima (Little) Boles. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn. His daughters, Caye Mauney (Scott) Charla Burgess (Danny) and son Alan Little (Shellie). Grandchildren, Zack Mauney (Makenzie) Justin Little (Chelsey) Ally Moskalski (Matt) Zane Mauney (Maclaine) and Emma Little. His 13 great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you send donations to the volunteer Fire Departments of Gorman and/or Carbon, or the Kokomo Baptist Church.
